LOOKING FOR LAWSON: The Poetry of Henry Lawson in Music and Song

Described by Barry Humphries as “Miraculous!”, LOOKING FOR LAWSON is an exciting contemporary take on the works of classic Australian poet, Henry Lawson.

Henry’s most evocative poems come to life in new musical settings by composer and musical director John Thorn (Spontaneous Broadway, Background Boy), with echoes of Jacques Brel, Astor Piazzola, Joni Mitchell, with a dash of Irish Folk charm. Starring showstopping vocalist and actor Taryn Ryan (Once We Lived Here) with Thorn on piano and vocals, LOOKING FOR LAWSON comes to the Brunswick Picture House (exclusively in the Northern Rivers) after critically acclaimed runs at Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Perth Fringe World Festival.

“The greatest thing to happen to Lawson since his state funeral” — Terry Maher

“Lawson’s poems, beautifully set to music by John Thorn with the crystal clarity of Taryn Ryan’s voice, embark on a journey that shows his love of Australia, especially its glorious bush, his empathy with the poor, his admiration for the daring free-spirits in the anarchic.” — ★★★★ FringeFeed

“A miraculous moment…the great Henry Lawson sings!” — Barry Humphries
