Great Southern Nights presents Old Friends Sing Sondheim

Starring Old Friends Mark Trevorrow, Rupert Noffs & Bev Kennedy.

MARK TREVORROW, the creator of Aussie comedy icon Bob Downe, returns to the Brunswick Picture House with his Old Friends RUPERT NOFFS and BEV KENNEDY. Together they weave a mesmerising tribute cabaret, OLD FRIENDS, showcasing their remarkable musicianship and deep admiration for STEPHEN SONDHEIM’s unparalleled American Musical Theatre songbook. Expect a night filled with banter, spontaneous humour, and a profound appreciation for Sondheim’s musical and lyrical brilliance.

FABULOUS! So good together and the arrangements are amazing”

A wonderful, funny show about friendship”

Bob Downe’s not invited, he says, but a smirk here and a gurgling laugh remind us of his alter ego. It’s a great opportunity to confirm his talent as a cabaret performer and an elegant singer… He has the audience right where he wants them”
— SAMELA HARRIS, Adelaide Advertiser

Supporting throughout is the fantastic Bev Kennedy on piano, who does not stop and keeps everything on track”
— HAYLEY HORTON, Glam Adelaide

A comedian, singer, actor, broadcaster and journalist, Mark’s 40+ year journey through Australian media and show business has taken him from pop columnist at the Melbourne Herald Sun, to cabaret group The Globos, to arts editor of Vogue Australia, to the creation of Bob Downe in 1984, to acting in Kath & Kim, singing as himself on Good News Week and broadcasting on ABC TV and local radio – then back to Bob again. His work has taken him from Australia to Edinburgh to London to New York, and it’s not over yet!

Rupert Noffs is a NIDA graduate, and former student of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His Sondheim journey ignited aged 16 when he was asked to sing Being Alive at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall for his school graduation. In 2001, he played ‘Jack’ in Into The Woods (SUDS) at The Seymour Centre, sharing the stage with Adelaide Cabaret Festival Creative Director, Virginia Gay. Rupert moved to New York in 2010 and co-founded The Lucky Bee restaurant in Downtown Manhattan, alongside husband and partner of 20 years, Chef Matty Bennett. During his seven years in NYC, Rupert co-wrote and performed shows at Joes Pub and Parkside Lounge, alongside powerhouse singer Amber Martin.

Back home, he was a featured judge on Channel Seven’s ratings hit, All Together Now, hosted by Julia Zemiro, in 2018.

Bev Kennedy is regarded as one of Australia’s leading Musical Directors and accompanists, having worked on over 50 professional music theatre productions including Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, The Producers, We Will Rock You, The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Chicago and the concert version of Sunset Boulevard with Judi Connelli. She was Associate Musical Director for Simon Gallaher’s Pirates of Penzance, which is the highest selling recording of a musical in Australian history & also won an ARIA award for best cast recording.

Most recently Bev has been working on Muriel’s Wedding, Jersey Boys, Wicked and as Musical Director on Avenue Q. She was nominated for a Green Room award for her work as Musical Director on the Australian Premiere of Gutenberg the Musical and a Sydney Theatre Critic’s Award for her work as Musical Director on the Australian Premiere of Heathers.
